Why we love it

The setting

This hotel is on Rue Doménil in the 12th arrondissement, about 4 km from the centre of Paris, between the Bois de Vincennes and the Bercy neighbourhood. It’s not so much a neighbourhood with a lively nightlife as it is a quiet residential area. Since Rue Doménil is lined with cafés, bakeries, and a metro station, Lyon Station and other parts of the city are easily accessible on foot or by metro.

What to expect

This cozy 3-star hotel with 43 rooms is known for its warm and relaxed hospitality. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel, and there is also a bar and a restaurant. At the front desk, you can book tours and arrange transfers. Parking spaces in the city are available by advance reservation. The rooms are equipped with air conditioning, a desk, a TV, and everything you need, so you can drop off your luggage and head out to explore Paris right away.

Things to do nearby

The “Aquarium Tropical” and the Art Deco-style “Palais de la Porte Dorée” are just a few minutes’ walk away and are ideal places to spend the rest of the afternoon. For a stroll along the Seine-side, the hotel recommends visiting the nearby Île de Bercy, and the La Promenade Plantée—which runs along an old railway viaduct—starts right next to the hotel and leads toward the Bastille. It’s perfect for those who prefer green routes to the metro tunnels.

Best for

It’s perfect for couples and families looking for a quiet place to stay surrounded by an authentic Parisian cityscape. Thanks to its proximity to the Bois de Vincennes, you can spend the day enjoying nature, while still having easy access to the city centre. This hotel is also great for families with children; there’s a bar and restaurant on the premises where you can enjoy a pleasant evening.

How to get to the hotel

Paris-Orly Airport is about a 25–30-minute drive away, while Charles de Gaulle Airport is—depending on traffic conditions—about a 35–45-minute drive to the north. The nearest central train station is Lyon, which can be reached by taxi or metro in a few minutes; from there, it’s easy to transfer to TGV and Eurostar trains. The hotel can arrange a shuttle upon booking.

Your 4 days, loosely planned

Suggestions, not orders. Tour ideas to mix and match for your trip.

Day 1

Settling into the 12th

Once you reach Rue Domenech, drop off your luggage and take a leisurely stroll along the “La Promenade Plantée”—a pedestrian path built on an old railway viaduct. Head toward the Bastille, then stroll back at your own pace, stopping at any café that catches your eye for a cup of coffee along the way. In the evening, you can have dinner at a bistro near the hotel or head to the Bercy neighbourhood for a glass of wine and a light bite to eat.

Day 2

Aquarium and Art Deco

Spend the morning at the “Aquarium Tropical,” located just a few minutes’ walk from the hotel, and at the nearby “Palais de la Porte Dorée.” The building itself, adorned with frescoes and reliefs from the 1930s, is just as worth seeing as the aquariums. Then you’ll stop by the Bois de Vincennes, have a picnic by the lake, rent a rowboat, or take a walk to the castle, and then return to the hotel to relax.

Day 3

Central Paris on the RER

Let’s take the train from Lyon’s train station to central Paris. You’ll stroll along the Seine to Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Île de la Cité, and then, as you wander through the Marais district, you’ll enjoy lunch. Spend the afternoon at a museum of your choice. If you like a challenge, consider the Louvre; if you prefer a more intimate atmosphere, the Musée d’Orsay is an excellent choice. Then take the train back to Daumesnil and enjoy a leisurely dinner in the area.

Day 4

Bercy, books and last coffee

Take a short detour to Île de Bercy or “Bercy Village,” browse the shops housed in former wine cellars, and pick out something to enjoy on your way back. If you have time, take another stroll along the La Promenade Plantée, this time in the opposite direction. Enjoy one last pastry near the hotel, pack your bags, and head leisurely to Lyon Station or the airport.

FAQ

Is Hotel L'Interlude a good base for families?

Yes. This hotel is well-suited for families with children, and the 12th arrondissement is a quiet residential neighbourhood. The "Tropical Aquarium," the Bois de Vincennes, and the "Promenade des Plantes" are nearby, and you can easily walk there even with children.

Is mid-September a good time to visit Paris?

September is one of the months when the weather is relatively pleasant. From September 17 to 20, the weather is usually mild and perfect for walks. The summer hustle and bustle has died down, so museums and parks are no longer as crowded. Be sure to bring a light jacket for the evening.

What's around the hotel besides the main sights?

The "Aquarium Tropical" Aquarium, the "Port-Dore" Palace, the Île de Bercy, and the La Promenade Plantée are all just a few minutes' walk away. If you’d like to spend a day surrounded by nature, the Vincennes Forest is also very close by. In addition, the hotel has a bar and restaurant, and you can book tours at the front desk.

Can guests arrange a transfer or parking?

If you specify this when making your reservation, the hotel can arrange a shuttle service for you. Guests arriving by car can use city parking, which is available by advance reservation. Since parking spaces are limited in this area of Paris, the hotel recommends that you check availability in advance.

How do you get into central Paris from the hotel?

You're roughly 4 km from the centre. Gare de Lyon is nearby for RER and mainline trains, and the metro along avenue Daumesnil runs into the middle of the city in about 15 minutes. Walking towards Bastille via La Promenade Plantée is a pleasant alternative.
