The setting
This hotel is in Kamari on the south-eastern coast of Santorini, just a few steps from the black-sand beach. This part of the island has a more relaxed atmosphere than the villages surrounding the caldera; the buildings here are low-rise, and a pedestrian zone lined with numerous taverns and cafes runs along the coast. The beach is less than a two-minute walk away, and a stop for local buses heading to Fira and Perissa is also nearby. During the day, life here moves at a leisurely pace, but in the evening, the waterfront comes alive.

Things to do nearby
Kamari Beach is right on your doorstep, and the black-sand beach and crystal-clear sea are just a two-minute walk away. On the cape directly above the resort lie the ancient ruins of Tyra. If you climb the winding paths and steep hiking trails, you’ll be rewarded with a sweeping view of the Aegean Sea—the climb is definitely worth it. Further inland, nearby, are the Church of Panagia Episkopi and the Monastery of the Prophet Elijah. If you’re looking for a change of scenery, the hotel recommends a trip to Perissa Beach, located just beyond the mountain range.

How to get to the hotel
Santorini (Thira) Airport is the nearest point of arrival, located about a 10-minute drive from Kamari. The runway is directly north of the village. The hotel can arrange a private transfer for you at the time of booking. In addition, taxis are usually available outside the arrivals hall. Ferries from Athens and other Cyclades islands arrive at Athinios Port; the drive across the island takes about 20 minutes.

Arrival and the Kamari seafront
After you drop off your luggage and rest for a bit, take a two-minute walk to Kamari Beach and enjoy your first swim in the Aegean Sea. Since the black volcanic sand gets hot under your feet, consider bringing flip-flops. Stroll along the pedestrian promenade north or south, order a drink at one of the beach bars, and pick a taverna for dinner. Grilled fish and a carafe of local white wine are classic menu items. Since the actual excursions begin tomorrow, it’s best to go to bed early tonight.
Climb to Ancient Thira
Let's head to the ancient city of Tyra, on Mesa Vouno, right above the resort. You can either drive up the winding road or walk along the hiking trail from Kamari to get some exercise in the cool morning air. Take a stroll with ocean views on both sides of the mountain ridge, exploring the ruins of the Agora, the theatre, and the terraces. After your descent, enjoy a late lunch, then relax by the hotel pool and, if you’ve booked the service, visit the spa.
Perissa and the south coast
Cross the ridge to Perissa Beach, another long stretch of black sand on the far side of Mesa Vouno. It has a slightly different rhythm — a bit more laid-back, with sunbeds and beach bars running the length of the shore. Spend the day swimming and reading, then head back to Kamari for sunset. Dinner along the promenade, and a nightcap at the pool bar.
Villages and monasteries inland
Spend a peaceful day in the heart of the island. Panagia Episkopi is a small Byzantine church with ancient frescoes, and the Monastery of St. Elijah is at the highest point on the island, offering a view of all of Santorini. On the way, stop for lunch at a taverna in the village of Pyrgos. In the afternoon, return to the hotel to relax by the pool, and for dinner, check out the new restaurant in Kamari.
Caldera day in Fira and Oia
In the morning, you’ll head to Fira by bus or car. Visit a café on the edge of the caldera, the Archaeological Museum, and take a stroll through the winding streets carved into the cliffs. In the afternoon, you’ll continue north to Iya. After exploring the white-washed streets and buildings with blue domes, find the perfect viewpoint to admire the famous sunset. You can have dinner either in Ios or return to Kamari and enjoy a quiet dinner near your hotel.
Spa day and beach
Let's just relax and enjoy the day today. Book a massage at Aerno Spa, visit the sauna and steam room, and then head to the pool with a book in hand. Have lunch at the poolside bar, go for a swim at Kamari Beach after lunch, and take a stroll along the waterfront at sunset before dinner. If you’d like to do something else, be sure to plan a wine tasting at a winery on Santorini, where they produce Assyrtiko wines.
Slow morning and departure
Before you leave, take one last swim in Kamari or enjoy a cup of coffee at a café right on the shore while watching the fishing boats. You also recommend picking up some last-minute souvenirs at the shops along the promenade. Local wine, capers, and olive oil are easy to pack. Since the airport is only a 10-minute drive away, you won’t have to rush in the morning. Before you leave, you can book a shuttle at the front desk.

Is Afroditi Venus Beach Resort suitable for children?
Yes, the hotel warmly welcomes families and, in addition to the main pool, features a separate children’s pool. Kamari Beach is just a few minutes’ walk away and has shallow waters, making it easy to get into the water. Since the promenade is exclusively for pedestrians, you can enjoy an evening stroll even with small children.
When is the best time to visit Kamari?
Late September, which fits perfectly into this travel plan, is the ideal time to travel. Thanks to the lingering warmth of summer, the sea is still warm, the days are long and sunny, and there are fewer tourists than in July and August. Highs range from the mid-20s to the high 20s, so you can even enjoy dinner outdoors in the evening.
