Dalegarth House’s house is in the idyllic Lake District, far from the hustle and bustle of the city—in a place where you’re more likely to encounter sheep than stores. Surrounded by rolling hills, it offers guests a peaceful rural atmosphere, and as soon as you step outside, you’re right on the hiking trails. Guests typically arrive by car, explore the surroundings on leisurely walks, and then return to enjoy a quiet evening. The atmosphere here is quiet and serene—this is true country life.
What to expect
The atmosphere here is more like that of a small, owner-operated guesthouse in Cumbrian than that of a large hotel. In addition, the owner couple knows the local hiking trails inside and out. You can plan your day at your own pace. For example, you can go hiking early in the morning, return to the guesthouse in the afternoon to take a bath and relax, and then have dinner at one of the nearby pubs or restaurants.
Things to do nearby
Fell paths start close to the door, so you can be on the ridges within minutes of setting off. Local lakes, tarns and villages are all an easy drive, and the guesthouse team can point you at routes to match the weather. Country pubs and cafés sit within reach for lunch stops and post-walk pints.

In August, the days are long, and since you can still go for a walk even at dusk before dinner, it’s the perfect time for walks along the cliffs.
How to get to the hotel
Most guests arrive by car. Since the Lake District does not have its own airports, the drive to Manchester takes about two hours. If you’re arriving by train, Penrith and Windermere stations are easily accessible; from there, you’ll need to continue your journey by taxi or rental car. Since the guesthouse has parking, arriving by car is the most convenient option.

Arrival and a gentle first walk
Drive along the country roads of Cumbrian la, check into your hotel, and drop off your luggage. Return to your lodging, take a warm shower, head to the nearest pub to enjoy a hearty dinner, and turn in early to prepare for a full day in the mountains.
A full day on the fells
Depending on the weather forecast, choose one of the classic routes in the Lake District. On a sunny day, consider hiking along the mountain ridges, and when the clouds are low, choose a route through the valleys. Spend some time at the summit, enjoy the view while having a sandwich, and head back down around noon. Treat yourself to some tea and pastries as a reward, and then enjoy a cozy dinner at one of the local restaurants.

Let's take it easy this last morning. How about driving to the nearest lake, taking a walk along the shore, strolling through the town with its market, or visiting the region’s famous small rural churches and shops selling folk crafts? After enjoying a late lunch at a café—still wearing the boots that have gotten muddy after two days in the fresh air, and with a pleasant sense of tiredness in your body—you head home by car.

Yes. Sat in lake country, the guesthouse has mountain hiking trails on its doorstep and walking paths tracing the shore. Ask the owner — they'll happily point you toward walking routes that match your fitness and the day's weather. As for essential gear, you should bring hiking boots, waterproof clothing, and a packed lunch.
Is late August a good time to visit the Lake District?
Late August is one of the most pleasant times of the year. The days are still long, the rolling countryside is covered in greenery, and the evenings are so warm that after a walk, you can still enjoy a glass of wine outdoors.
