Since the distances between the islands by plane are short, you can stay in different places without spending much time travelling.
Both places are excellent destinations for a romantic getaway, but your choice will depend on what aspects—besides the beach—are particularly important to you. The Maldives has a flat and compact landscape, and it is built largely around single-island resorts, the flight time from the UK is relatively short. January through March is the rainiest time of year, with high humidity and the greatest likelihood of tropical storms. During this period, some smaller properties and boat excursions may reduce the number of trips. Prices are also at their lowest then, a trip is still possible if you’re willing to put up with the weather conditions. During the high season, in July and August, travel costs are at their highest.
At many island resorts, breakfast is included in the room rate, and on smaller islands, it’s common to offer half-board (breakfast and dinner), as there are often few restaurants outside the hotel grounds. Large hotels typically have a swimming pool, are located right on the beach or by a lagoon, provide snorkelling gear, and have a spa. In small guesthouses—which locals call pensions—dinner is usually served at a communal table.
