The setting
This hotel is in Puerto del Carmen on the southern coast of the island of Lanzarote, about 3 km from the city centre and right next to Playa de Matagorda. It is a low-rise apartment complex situated in a quiet coastal area, just a short walk from the promenade with its many restaurants and bars. The atmosphere here is more relaxed and family-friendly than one filled with noisy parties. You can walk directly along the promenade to the livelier Los Pocillos neighbourhood.

From there, the promenade leads to the old port of Puerto del Carmen, and the volcanic landscape of Timanfaya, in the interior of the island, is easily accessible by car.

It’s perfect for families and couples who’ve just spent a week on a quiet beach. In addition to flexible self-catering accommodations and a wellness centre for relaxation, there are two long sandy beaches right nearby. For golf and tennis enthusiasts, the complex features its own courts.
How to get to the hotel
Lanzarote Airport (Arrecife) is about 6 km inland along the coast, and it takes about 10 minutes to reach by taxi. Among the resorts in the Canary Islands, this is the airport located closest to the main terminal. It’s easy to book a transfer in advance or rent a car, and there’s a bus that runs between the airport and Puerto del Carmen.

Arrival and Matagorda sunset
Upon arrival at Lanzarote Airport, you can either rent a car or take a short taxi ride along the coast to check into your hotel. After unpacking, walk to Playa de Matagorda—it’s about a two-minute walk—and take a short stroll along the boardwalk to soak up the atmosphere. When the setting sun over the Atlantic Ocean begins to bathe the surroundings in soft light, find a spot for your first cocktail, then enjoy local delicacies either at the hotel restaurant or at one of the nearby seaside eateries—this way, you can end your first evening in complete relaxation.
Pocillos beach day
After spending a relaxing morning by the hotel pool, why not take a stroll along the boardwalk to Pocillos Beach? It’s about a 15-minute walk. Here you’ll find a spacious sandy beach, and the sea is often calmer than it seems at first glance—the perfect place to swim to your heart’s content or relax with a book in hand. Enjoy lunch at one of the beach cafes in Los Pocillos, and on your way back, stop by the shops to pick up a few more essentials that people often forget when packing.
Timanfaya volcano country
On this day, you’ll drive west to the Timanfaya region. Book the “The Fire Mountains” route, which runs through the national park, you’ll be treated to a landscape that seems like something out of another world—black lava fields, ochre-coloured craters, and demonstrations of geothermal phenomena at the visitor centre. Since the central area is closed to private vehicles, consider booking a guided bus tour upon arrival. You’ll then continue on to El Golfo, where you’ll enjoy the view of the green lagoon and have a seafood lunch on the shore, where fishing boats are moored, before returning to the hotel.
Spa, pool and doing very little
Take a deliberate rest day. Start with a swim, then book yourself into the on-site massage room and follow it with a session in the sauna and solarium. In between, drift between sun loungers and the bar. Kids can burn off energy in the playroom, playground and children's pool while the adults read. In the evening, walk the promenade for tapas and a glass of Lanzarote's volcanic white wine.

How about dedicating a day to the artists who have left their mark on this island’s landscape? Drive north to the HamĂ©os del Agua and the Cueva de los Verdes la (lava cave), and then return via the Mirador del RĂo overlook to enjoy a breathtaking view from the cliffs of the island of La Graciosa. If you have time, stop by the CĂ©sar Manrique Foundation in TahĂche on your way back. For dinner, consider either a restaurant in Teguise or returning to the harbour of Puerto del Carmen, where you can enjoy dishes made with fresh ingredients.
Golf, tennis or the old harbour
If you want to get some serious exercise, you can use the hotel’s tennis court or the nearby golf course in the morning, work out in the gym, or go for a good swim. In the afternoon, consider taking a drive or a walk along the waterfront to the old port of Puerto del Carmen. This small fishing harbour is the town’s main attraction. Order some grilled fish at a table along the waterfront, watch the fishing boats return, and then browse the shops in the streets behind the harbour.
Papagayo beaches by car or boat
Drive past Playa Blanca and continue south toward Papagayo Beach. If you follow the rugged trail, you’ll reach a series of wind-sheltered coves surrounded by crystal-clear waters and volcanic cliffs rising behind them. This is one of the island’s most beautiful resorts. Be sure to bring water, a snack, and water shoes. Alternatively, consider taking a boat tour from Puerto del Carmen that includes stops for snorkeling.

Why is Lanzarote on the no-go list?
The island of Lanzarote is not included on the UK’s official “list of countries to which travel is not recommended.” This information relates to protests by local residents against “overtourism” and water shortages that occurred in 2024 in some areas of the Canaries, and has been presented as a warning in some news headlines. Tourists are still warmly welcomed. However, the hotel ask that you travel with the interests of local residents in mind, follow the recommendations for conserving water in your room, and shop at local stores as often as possible.
Which part of Lanzarote has the best weather?
The southern and south-eastern coasts—Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca, and Costa Teguise—are sheltered from the trade winds blowing from the north and therefore enjoy the most consistent sunshine and the gentlest winds. Puerto del Carmen, where this hotel is, is one of the warmest and driest regions on the island throughout the year, which is why a resort has developed here.
How many days is enough in Lanzarote?
The seven nights included in this itinerary are truly the perfect length of stay. That’s more than enough time to spend two or three days at the beach, take a tour to the Timanfaya volcano, spend a day exploring the north of the island in the footsteps of César Manrique, or enjoy a boat ride and a trip to Papagayo—and still have time to fully enjoy the pool. If you want to explore the island at a leisurely pace, 5 days might not be quite enough. For those who prefer a relaxed holiday, as well as families, 10–14 days would be ideal.
What is the cheapest time of year to go to Lanzarote?
May, June, and early November fall between school breaks; since the sea temperature is high and there is consistent sunshine, this is generally the best time to travel. In addition, from late January through February, prices generally drop, unless it is a school holiday period. Late October is a quiet period before the peak of the Christmas season. Prices here are more affordable compared to the height of summer, and you can still enjoy warm weather.
What are the main do's and don'ts in Lanzarote?
Do rent a car for at least a couple of days, respect the national park rules at Timanfaya, and try local MalvasĂa wine and papas arrugadas. Don't take volcanic stones home, don't waste water, and don't underestimate the Atlantic — swim between flags on the exposed beaches. Cover up on the coastal roads too; the sun is stronger than it feels in the breeze.
