Yes. The coastline stretches along the Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. For most of the year, the water here is warm, the waves are calm, and the waters are shallow, with vast sandy beaches stretching out beyond, lined with a variety of resort hotels. From autumn through spring, you can usually count on sunny weather. Because a beach holiday can easily be combined with visits to bazaars, desert tours, culinary adventures, and shopping, you don’t have to spend the whole week on a lounge chair.
The Jumeirah area in Dubai and Palm Jumeirah Island are home to the largest number of beachfront hotels, and the surrounding area features numerous restaurants and shops. In Abu Dhabi, resorts are scattered along the Corniche waterfront, as well as on the islands of Saadiyat and Yas. Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah are ideal for a more relaxing holiday; Fujairah, in particular, is located on the shores of the Gulf of Oman, with mountains stretching beyond its sandy beaches.
From November through April, daytime temperatures range from the mid-20s to the low 30s Celsius, and humidity is low—making this the most pleasant time of year for a beach holiday. December through February is the coolest here and there are the most tourists. May and October fall somewhere in between: although it’s hot, you can still swim, and prices are generally lower. In July and August, temperatures consistently stay above 40 °C with high humidity, so you’ll likely spend most of your time indoors or by the pool.
Go for 5 to 7 nights, which is ideal for a beach holiday here. Since the flight from the UK takes about 7 hours, you can also plan a trip for a long weekend. A week will give you enough time to spend the morning in the desert, the day exploring Abu Dhabi or the old quarters of Dubai, and a few relaxing days by the sea. If you plan to combine 2 emirates, add a few extra nights.
Most of the emirates’ coastal resorts feature access to a private beach, at least one pool, a gym, and a spa, as well as several on-site restaurants. Accommodation options typically include room only and bed and breakfast, while Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah often offer half-board or all-inclusive packages. Breakfast is usually served as a generous buffet featuring Western, Arabic, and Asian dishes.
Both work. Family-friendly resorts feature kids’ clubs and shallow pools, as well as convenient access to large water parks and aquariums. The shallow waters of the Gulf are also ideal for travellers with young children. Couples prefer resorts on the islands off the coast of Abu Dhabi, as well as the northern emirates with their spacious beaches and relaxed evening atmosphere. Although there are some adults-only hotels, they are still a rarity.
