Greece is a great destination for adults-only holidays. Many of the major islands have hotels with an age restriction of 16 or 18. Santorini and Mykonos are particularly well-suited for couples and offer stylishly designed hotels with views of the caldera and the sea. In Crete, Rhodes, and Kos, there are quieter, adults-only beach hotels with large pools. Paros, Naxos, and Milos offer an even more peaceful atmosphere.
Choose an island that matches your lifestyle. Santorini is perfect for dinner with a view of the sunset and a relaxing getaway, while in Mykonos, beach clubs and bars come alive late into the night. In Crete, you can go on road trips, enjoy delicious meals, and swim at long, sandy beaches. On Rhodes and Corfu, the beaches and old towns blend seamlessly into one another, while the small islands of the Cyclades maintain a peaceful atmosphere even in the height of the season.
In May, June, September, and early October, the sea is warm, the sun shines longer, and the beaches are less crowded. Since July and August are the hottest months and the beaches are most crowded, book your accommodation in advance if you plan to travel during this time. In April and late October, the climate is mild and ideal for walking; outside the high season, some islands may have fewer hotel options and fewer ferry departures.
Prices drop before and after the summer peak, so the best times to travel are late April, May, October, and early November. In July and August, airfare and hotel rates are at their highest, and accommodation are particularly scarce during the last 2 weeks of August. On Crete and Rhodes, the tourist season lasts longer than on the smaller islands of the Cyclades, where many hotels close for the winter.
On the Greek islands, the most common type of accommodation is bed and breakfast, whereas larger beach hotels often offer half-board (with breakfast and dinner); all-inclusive packages are found primarily at large coastal resorts. Breakfast is usually served buffet-style and includes Greek yogurt, honey, pastries, eggs, and fruit. Adults-only hotels usually feature a pool, a sun deck, a bar, and a wellness centre or spa area.
7 nights is the ideal length of stay to get to know the island: itβs enough time to relax on the beach, take a few boat trips, and enjoy a cosy dinner a few times. If youβre planning a 10β14-night trip, you can combine visits to 2 islands or include Athens at the beginning or end of your trip. Ferry crossings take time, so set aside one day for travelling between the islands.
