The setting
The Ameritania Hotel is on West 54th Street, at the very edge of Broadwayâs theatre district and just a few minutesâ walk from Times Square. The Beaux-Arts-style building has been transformed into a boutique hotel with a retro atmosphere; the lobby bar and lounge are on the ground floor. You can explore central Midtown Manhattan on foot in all directions, and the Underground, which runs beneath Broadway and 7th Avenue, takes you even to places that are too far to reach on foot.
What to expect
The rooms are decorated in earth tones and feature cotton linens, a high-definition TV, and toiletries by Galimard. Thanks to the 24-hour fitness centre, you can recharge after a tiring flight, even if you arrive late. Plus, the lobby bar is the perfect place to plan your next day over a glass of your favourite drink. The hotel features a restaurant as well as parking spaces for guests arriving by car. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel. In 2026, the hotel received the TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice Award from TripAdvisor.
Things to do nearby
Since both the Broadway Theatre and Studio 54 are just a one-minute walk from the hotelâs main entrance, you can enjoy spending some time at the hotel bar before the show. If youâd like to spend the evening listening to classical music, Carnegie Hall is nearby, and if you need a map of the city or tourist information, the New York City Tourism Bureau is just a short walk down the street. Central Park, Radio City Music Hall, and the shops on 57th Street are also within easy walking distance.
Best for
Itâs perfect for theatre lovers, first-time visitors to the city who want to get to know Midtown better, and couples looking for a stylish, cozy place with a bar they can pop into at any time. Thanks to its convenient location and 24-hour fitness centre, this hotel is also recommended for solo travellers.
How to get to the hotel
A taxi ride to JFK Airport takes about 45 to 60 minutes, depending on traffic. Alternatively, you can take the AirTrain to Jamaica Station and then transfer to the E line to get to Midtown. LaGuardia Airport is closer and can be reached by taxi in about 30 minutes. From Newark Airport, take the AirTrain and NJ Transit to Penn Station; from there, itâs just a few minutesâ walk, or you can take the Underground north to West 54th Street Station.

Your 5 days, loosely planned
Suggestions, not orders. Tour ideas to mix and match for your trip.
Arrival and Times Square by night
Check in at the hotel on West 54th Street and drop off your luggage. Take a five-minute walk south to Times Square to take in its grandeur during the day, then walk back along Broadway. After enjoying an early dinner at a local restaurant, treat yourself to a glass of wine before bed at the hotel lobby bar. If the time difference allows, itâs worth heading out one more time late at night. At this hour, the billboards look especially spectacular, and the sidewalks are filled with people just coming out of the theatres.
Broadway matinee and Midtown wander
Book a ticket for a matinee performance at one of the theatres located about a minuteâs walk from the entrance. Beforehand that, take a stroll to Carnegie Hall to admire the buildingâs facade and check out the evening program. After the show, consider either walking west toward Hell's Kitchen to grab a coffee and explore the neighbourhood a bit, or heading east toward 57th Street to browse the stores of famous brands. Return to your hotel, change clothes, and then choose a nearby bar to settle in and enjoy dinner.
Central Park and museums
Central Park's southern edge is a short walk north. Spend the morning cutting through the park to the Metropolitan Museum or the Guggenheim on the Upper East Side. Break for lunch at a café on Madison. In the afternoon, walk back through the park via the Bethesda Terrace and the Mall. A stop at the hotel's fitness centre before dinner won't hurt after all the miles.
Downtown day out
Ride the 50th Street Underground station, you head toward the Financial District. You cross the Walk the Brooklyn Bridge and walk to DUMBO, where you take photos of the river and the city skyline, and then head to Brooklyn Heights to enjoy some pizza. On the way back, youâll stop by the World Trade Centre and the 9/11 Memorial. Youâve planned enough time to return to Uptown, freshen up, and end the evening with a cocktail at the lobby bar of the Ameritania at Times Square Hotel.
Last shops and departure
Use the morning doing things you haven't tried yet. These include a tour of Radio City Music Hall, the âTop of the Rockâ observation deck at Rockefeller Centre, or some last-minute shopping on Fifth Avenue. The âThe New York City Official Visitor Information Centre,â located just around the corner, is a great place to make plans, even at the last minute. After checking out of the hotel, you can leave your luggage at the hotel, enjoy a leisurely lunch nearby, and then head to the airport.

FAQ
What is the best month to go to New York?
Late October, when this tour takes place, is one of the best times of the year. The days are mild, the nights are cool, Central Park is ablaze with fall colours, and the summer hustle and bustle has died down. Overall, the best time to visit is from April through early June, as well as from September through early November. In July and August, itâs hot and humid here, and in January and February, although itâs cold, lodging prices are low, and you can get Broadway de Theatre tickets at great prices.
How many days do you need in New York?
A four-night stay, as with this trip, is ideal for a first visit. That way, you can spend one day each in Midtown and Times Square, in Central Park and at the art museums, in Central with the Brooklyn Bridge and the 9/11 Memorial, and one day at a Broadway show and shopping. If you have a whole week, youâll also be able to explore the suburbs and take your time enjoying the cityâs laid-back atmosphere.
What should tourists avoid doing in New York?
Avoid chain stores in Skip the Times Square, as well as people in costumes who approach you asking for tips. During rush hour, the Underground is faster, so donât take a taxi or stop on the sidewalk to check your smartphone. Avoid unlicensed bus tours offered right on the street, and make sure to zip up your bags on the Underground. In restaurants, the standard tip is 18â20 percent and is not optional.
What are the downsides of visiting New York?
Prices are high. The cost of food, drinks, and taxi rides adds up in the blink of an eye, and VAT is added at the register. The city is noisy and crowded, and getting around can be quite tiring. In the summer, itâs hot on the Underground platforms; in the winter, the wind cuts right through you, and the vast selection can sometimes be overwhelming. Theatres and popular restaurants may be impossible to get into unless you make a reservation in advance.
Is New York a good place to travel to?
Indeed, thereâs hardly a city that can offer so many attractions. Right next to the hotel is a world-class theatre; there are so many museums here that you wouldnât be able to visit them all even in a week; you can enjoy cuisine from around the world; and there are neighbourhoods everywhere, each with its own unique atmosphere, as if they were separate cities. When you stay at the Ameritania at Times Square Hotel, youâll save a lot of travel time thanks to its excellent locationâjust one minute from Broadway and a few minutesâ walk from Central Park.
