The setting
Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa sits on the eastern shore of Lake Windermere, about 4.5 km from Windermere town. The water is right outside, with the fells rising on the far side. It is a Victorian property that has grown into a full resort, so you get period character at the front and modern leisure facilities behind it. Ambleside is a short drive north, which makes this a good base if you want the lake on your doorstep without staying in the middle of a busy village.
What to expect
The Standard Double room covers around 18 m2 with a full double bed, a private bathroom and free Wi-Fi. The deal price is room only, so breakfast is an optional add-on at booking. On site there is an indoor pool, a sauna and spa area, a restaurant and a couple of bars, including a grill with an open kitchen. Two nights gives you enough time to use the leisure facilities and still get out onto the water or into the surrounding hills.

The lake itself is the main draw, with a jetty and boats a few steps from the hotel. Treetop Trek is under a kilometre away for high-ropes courses, and Brockhole, the Lake District Visitor Centre, is about 1.1 km along the shore. Ambleside Pier is 1.4 km north for lake cruises, and Wray Castle, a mock-Gothic house with grounds, is 1.5 km away. All of it is within a short drive or boat trip.
