Why we love it

The setting

This hotel is in a Grade I listed building in the Royal Albert Docks area on the banks of the River Mersey. Here, in the heart of Liverpool’s waterfront, the shops at the Liverpool One shopping centre, the museums along the docks, and the ferry terminal are all within walking distance. From Liverpool Lime Street Station, the hotel is just a few minutes away by taxi or on foot;

What to expect

The rooms feature the standard furnishings found in Premier Inn hotels. In addition, the hotel has a bar. Parking spaces are off-site at Kings Dock and are available to hotel guests at discounted rates.

Things to do nearby

The Beatles Story is right next to the hotel, and other warehouses, cafes, and galleries at Albert Dock are within walking distance. Tate Liverpool is just a few minutes’ walk along the waterfront, as is the Liverpool Wheel, which offers a magnificent view of the skyline and the River Mersey. Since the M&S Bank Arena is also nearby, the hotel recommends choosing this hotel as your base if there’s a concert there that evening.

Best for

Perfect for couples looking to spend a weekend outside the city, Beatles fans, visitors to M&S Bank Arena who are planning to attend a concert, as well as anyone who wants to stroll along the waterfront on foot without using a car.

How to get to the hotel

Liverpool John Lennon Airport is about a 20- to 30-minute drive south; it can be reached from the city centre by taxi or by taking bus No. 500. Liverpool’s main train station, Liverpool Lime Street, is about one mile from the hotel; it’s a 20-minute walk or a few minutes by taxi. Drivers can use the Kings Dock paid parking lot on Monarchs Quay at a discounted rate for hotel guests.

Day 1

Albert Dock and the Beatles

Start with “The Beatles Story” exhibition, located right next to the hotel, then take a stroll down the cobblestone street of Albert Dock, and afterward stop by the Tate Liverpool, where you can spend about two hours. Have lunch at one of the cafes on the waterfront, right by the water. In the afternoon, take a ride on the “Liverpool Wheel” to enjoy the view of the River Mersey, then walk to “Liverpool One” for some shopping. Return to the “Thyme” restaurant for dinner and have a cocktail at the bar.

Day 2

Waterfront morning before checkout

If time allows, take a ferry ride down the River Mersey to Birkenhead and back. On the way back, walk along the waterfront past the Liverpool Wheel. If there’s a show that evening at the M&S Bank Arena—which is just a two-minute walk from the hotel—you can check out of the hotel, drop off your luggage there, and head straight to the event.

FAQ

Is this a good base for a concert at the M&S Bank Arena?

Yes. Since the arena is just a few minutes’ walk from the hotel, you can head back there right after the Angkor show ends without having to wait for a taxi. This is one of the main reasons why concertgoers choose to stay at the Premier Inn rather than at a hotel in the city centre, which is farther from the waterfront.

Can you park at the hotel?

There is no parking on the hotel grounds. Hotel guests are advised to use the Kings Dock parking lot in Monarchs Quay (L3 4BX), which is within walking distance. As part of a special offer from Premier Inn, parking at this facility is available for £18.80 per 24 hours. Upon departure, please have your parking ticket stamped at the front desk on the first floor.

Is September a good time to visit Liverpool?

September is one of the months when the weather is relatively pleasant. The summer hustle and bustle has died down a bit, and although the weather is changeable, it’s generally mild, and there are once again plenty of events taking place along the riverfront and in the city’s galleries. If you’re planning to spend an evening along the banks of the River Mersey, don’t forget to bring a jacket.

Is the hotel suitable for families?

It’s perfect for families who want to visit the sights in the Dock area. The rooms meet Premier Inn’s standards.

What's there to eat and drink on site?

Beyond that, Albert Dock has plenty of cafés, pubs and restaurants right outside the door.
