Why we love it
The setting
The Sligachan Hotel stands at the foot of the Black Cuillin, where the road across Skye meets the old stone bridge that walkers have crossed for generations. Mountains fill the windows on a clear day. The setting is open moorland and rock, with the river running close by. It is quiet, remote, and built for people who want the hills on their doorstep rather than a town nearby.
What to expect
Rooms have been refreshed in recent years, with several looking straight out at the Cuillin ridge. Downstairs you will find a residents' lounge with a wood-burning stove and leather armchairs, plus the Seamus Bar for food and a drink after a day out. The Superior Quadruple room gives a couple plenty of space, and the mountain outlook from the bedroom is the main draw. Meals are not part of the room rate, so it is worth adding breakfast when you book.
Things to do nearby
Walking is the reason most people come. Trails for the Cuillin and the route towards the Fairy Pools start close to the hotel, and the old Sligachan bridge sits just outside. Portree, the island's main town, is a short drive north for shops and harbour views. The dramatic rock formations of the Trotternish peninsula, including the Old Man of Storr, are within reach for a day out by car.
Best for
This suits walkers, climbers and anyone who wants the Cuillin within sight from the moment they wake. Couples after a remote base with good food and a fire to come back to will feel at home here.

FAQ
Is the Sligachan Hotel close to the Sligachan Old Bridge and the Cuillin?
The Sligachan Hotel sits right beside the old Sligachan bridge at the foot of the Black Cuillin, so the bridge is a few steps from the door and the mountains rise directly behind the hotel.
Does the Sligachan Hotel have a restaurant or bar?
Yes. The hotel has its own Seamus Bar, which serves food and drinks, so you can eat on site after a day in the hills without driving anywhere.
How far is the Sligachan Hotel from Portree?
Portree, the main town on Skye, is roughly a 20 to 25 minute drive north of the hotel and is the closest place for shops, cafes and the harbour.
Is the Sligachan Hotel a good base for walking on Skye?
Yes. Walking routes for the Cuillin and the path towards the Fairy Pools start close to the hotel, which is why it has long been a base for walkers and climbers.
Are meals included at the Sligachan Hotel?
The room rate here is room only, so meals are not included by default. You can add breakfast when you book, and the Seamus Bar serves food in the evening.
