Why we love it

The setting

This hotel is in the heart of Dubai, about 5 km from the Old City centre and just a few minutes’ walk from the Burj Khalifa. This area is a modern, pedestrian-friendly neighbourhood with numerous cafes and shopping centres, where crowds gather by the fountain in the evenings. The hotel features a pool, a fitness centre, and on-site parking. The sophisticated design characteristic of the Autograph Collection defines the hotel’s atmosphere.

What to expect

Expect a design-forward 4-star with a swimming pool and gym, free Wi-Fi throughout and a transfer service that can be arranged. Rooms come with a work desk, in-room safe, bathrobe and slippers, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, iron and toiletries. Parking is on site for anyone driving in from farther afield.

Things to do nearby

The Dubai Fountains are just a few minutes' walk away, with the Burj Khalifa towering behind them. The Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo are in the Dubai Mall, and both attractions are just a few minutes’ walk from the hotel. It’s perfect to go shopping in the morning, spend the afternoon at the shark tanks, and return to the hotel in the evening to enjoy the fountain show.

Best for

A good fit for couples and friends after a Downtown Dubai base with the big sights on foot, plus travellers who want a pool and gym after a day out. Solo city breakers who prefer walking to taxiing will get on well here.

How to get to the hotel

Under normal traffic conditions, the drive to Dubai International Airport (DXB) takes about 20–25 minutes; Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) is further south and can be reached in about 45 minutes. You can request a transfer to the hotel when making your reservation. In addition, the The Dubai Metro Red Line al connects the airport to the city centre, and the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station is right nearby.

A week, loosely planned

Suggestions, not orders. Tour ideas to mix and match for your trip.

Day 1

Arrival and first look at Downtown

As soon as you arrive at DXB Airport, take the pre-arranged shuttle to get to your hotel right away. After you drop off your luggage and freshen up, take a stroll toward the Dubai Fountains to get your first impression of the area. Enjoy a cup of coffee on a terrace by the water and plan your evening so you can catch the fountain show. Don’t overdo it with dinner tonight—choose a restaurant along the waterfront and go to bed early.

Day 2

Burj Khalifa morning

To visit the “At the Top” observation deck at the Burj Khalifa, consider booking your tickets early to avoid smog and long lines. Since the tower is less than 800 metres from the hotel, you can walk there in just a few minutes. After taking in the views from the observation deck at your leisure, consider taking a stroll around the surrounding plaza. Spend the afternoon by the hotel pool, and when night falls, return to the hotel to admire the illuminated fountains against the backdrop of the tower.

Day 3

Dubai Mall and the aquarium

Set aside a whole day to visit the Dubai Mall, which is within walking distance of your hotel. It’s best to start with the “Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo.” The main attraction here is the underwater tunnel. After having lunch at one of the mall’s cafes, you can browse the shops, watch the ice rink from the stands, and explore the food court. As dusk falls, people gather in the plaza with the fountain, and when the tower’s lighting switches to soft lighting, you can wrap up the day outdoors.

Day 4

Old Dubai across the Creek

Take the metro or a taxi to the historic neighbourhoods of Bur Dubai and Deira. Cross Dubai Creek on an “abra” boat for just a few dirhams and stroll through the spice and gold markets. For lunch, stop by one of the local restaurants near the bay, where they serve Emirati or Iranian cuisine. Ride the afternoon, return to the hotel, work out at the gym or relax by the pool, and then have dinner at one of the restaurants near the hotel.

Day 5

Desert day out

How about a one-day trip to the desert as part of a morning or afternoon safari tour? A drive through the sand dunes, an encounter with camels, and a desert sunset are classic highlights of these tours. Since most tour operators offer transportation from hotels in the city centre, booking this tour is very easy. You'll usually return to your hotel late at night, after dinner at a Bedouin-style camp. If a trip through the dunes isn’t your thing, you can book a half-day excursion to Al Marmoom instead.

Day 6

Beach and marina hop

For a change of pace, take a trip to JBR or Dubai Marina. Spend the morning on the sandy beach at “The Beach at JBR,” and then take a stroll along the Marina promenade while admiring the yachts. Have lunch at a waterfront restaurant, and if you’d like, take a short boat ride—on a dhow or a speedboat. Return to the hotel in the late afternoon, take a dip in the pool, and then enjoy dinner at a rooftop restaurant in the Central area.

Day 7

Culture, museums and souks

Spend a day filled with cultural experiences and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere. In the historic Al Fahidi district of Bur Dubai, you’ll find narrow streets, wind towers, and small museums—a tour of which takes about one to two hours and is definitely worth your time. Let’s head back to the “Museum of the Future” next to the Emirates Towers, which is just a few minutes’ taxi ride from the hotel. It’s one of the city’s most talked-about buildings right now. End the day with a leisurely dinner and enjoy the fountain show once more on your way back.

FAQ

What is the 3000 rule in Dubai?

The so-called “3,000 rule” refers to a measure introduced by the Central Bank of the UAE. When paying in cash for gold, jewelry, or precious stones totaling 3,000 dirhams or more, the buyer must present an ID, which is subject to registration. Since this is an anti-money laundering measure aimed at sellers and does not constitute a restriction on tourists, it does not affect regular purchases or card payments.

Which month is the cheapest to go to Dubai?

The best time to visit is generally during the peak season in the height of summer—that is, from June through early September. During this stretch, temperatures can climb above 40 °C and rooms book out quickly. From November through March, the high season begins, and prices rise again. Therefore, a trip in late November—although it’s the busiest and most expensive time of year—will allow you to enjoy pleasant weather.

How many days in Dubai is enough?

In four to five days, you’ll be able to see the main attractions, such as the Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Mall, the fountain show, Old Dubai, and go on a desert safari. If you have a full week, as is the case with this 7-day tour, you’ll also be able to visit JBR Beach, Dubai Marina, and the Museum of the Future—and, while you’re at it, set aside a day to relax by the pool.

What should tourists avoid doing in Dubai?

Please refrain from displays of affection in public places beyond holding hands, as well as from consuming alcohol outside of establishments licensed to sell alcoholic beverages, behavior while visibly intoxicated, offensive remarks and rude gestures, and photographing other people (especially women) without their consent. Please do not eat, drink, or smoke in public places during daylight hours while Ramadan is in effect. Additionally, do not bring items such as poppy seeds, CBD, or e-cigarettes with you without first familiarizing yourself with the applicable regulations.

Can a woman wear shorts in Dubai as a tourist?

Yes. In Downtown Dubai, Dubai Mall, JBR, hotels and the beach, shorts, dresses and swimwear are all fine. The rule of thumb is to cover shoulders and knees when visiting mosques, government buildings and more traditional souks in Bur Dubai and Deira. A light scarf in your bag covers most situations.
