Iglu-Dorf Kühtai | Alpine Igloo Adventure

High in the Tyrolean Alps above Kühtai — one of Austria's loftiest ski villages — sits Iglu-Dorf Kühtai. Rebuilt from snow every winter — walls, bar, sleeping quarters, all carved ice and packed powder. Days here run on mountain time: bright slopes outside, soft light filtering through the white interior, and quiet once the lifts stop. It is a short, single-night stay made for people who want to swap a normal hotel room for something colder and stranger.

You sleep in a carved snow chamber on an insulated mat, tucked into an expedition-grade sleeping bag with sheepskins layered underneath. The igloo holds steady around freezing whatever the weather does outside, which is warmer than the night air on the mountain. There is an ice bar carved into the snow for an evening drink, and the lit interior at night looks completely different from the daytime white. Pack warm base layers and bring a sense of adventure.

The igloo village is set among the ski runs and high lakes of the Kühtai and Seefeld region. The Seefeld ski area pulls in most visitors — cross-country and downhill runs sprawl right across the plateau. Around Seefeld itself you have the Olympia Sport and Congress Centre, the Wildsee lake and the small church at Seekirch, all within easy reach by road. Most guests come for the snow first and the village second, so the surroundings are slopes, frozen water and open Alpine sky.
