Why we love it

The setting

This hotel is on the south-eastern coast of Mallorca, offering views of Cala Ferrera Beach and the coastline, which is filled with the scent of pine trees. Since the centre of Santanyi is about 10 km inland, this quiet and cozy area is ideal for strolling from cove to cove—all without a car. In the evening, a relaxed atmosphere reigns here, and during the day—especially at the beach club—you can enjoy DJ sets at sunset and casual Mediterranean cuisine.

What to expect

In the sun-warmed outdoor pool at the Salines Spa (for an additional fee), where you can enjoy massages and beauty treatments, as well as at the beach club with panoramic views of Cala Ferrera Beach, where you can savor wines, cocktails, and Mediterranean cuisine. The rooms are equipped with all necessary amenities, and live music concerts and shows are held regularly. Guests also have access to a gym and table tennis tables, so even those who enjoy an active holiday will find entertainment to their liking here.

Things to do nearby

Cala dels Corral, which borders Cala Esmeralda, is just a minute’s walk from the hotel. The beaches of Cala Gran and Cala Ferrera Beach are a short walk away along a coastal trail through a pine forest; Cala Serena and Caló de ses Dones are a little further. Mondragó Natural Park is just a few minutes’ drive inland, where you can stroll along the promenade by the coast. In addition, delis and souvenir shops are just a few hundred metres away.

A week, loosely planned

Suggestions, not orders. Tour ideas to mix and match for your trip.

Day 1

Arrival and the cove below

To start, take a deep breath, grab a beach towel, and take a stroll to Cala des Corral, which is just a few steps from the hotel, to soak up the atmosphere of this place. After a swim in the crystal-clear sea, walk back a short distance and stop by the outdoor pool, gently warmed by the sun. When the sun goes down, grab a spot at the beach club overlooking Cala Esmeralda and, with a cocktail in hand, enjoy the DJ set as the sun sets.

Day 2

Cove-hopping along the coast

Walk south along the pine-shaded coast path from the hotel, dropping into Cala Gran and then Cala Ferrera Beach for a longer swim. Take a picnic or stop for lunch at a café near the marina in Cala d'Or. Loop back through Cala Serena in the late afternoon, then reward tired legs with a treatment at the Salines Spa.

Day 3

MondragĂł Natural Park

Take a trip to Mondragó Natural Park, located just a 7-km drive away, and spend the morning on a marked hiking trail that winds throughwetlands and sand dunes and runs between two quiet beaches, “S'Amarador” and “Ses Fonts de n’Alis.” Drive the sun is still warm on the coast in October, consider that you bring some water with you. Then return to the hotel, relax by the pool in the afternoon, and enjoy a cozy dinner at one of the nearby restaurants.

Day 4

Santanyi town and market

After driving about 10 km inland, you’ll reach the town of Santanyi. Here, buildings made of “honey stone” line the streets, and on Wednesdays and Saturdays, a spacious weekly market takes place in the main square. After you’ve taken your time browsing the pottery, olives, and local delicacies, enjoy a relaxing lunch at a shady café. Back at the hotel, you can first take a leisurely swim in the sun-warmed pool, then wait for the beach club to open for evening music events.

Day 5

Water and workouts

Take full advantage of all the resort’s amenities. Start by working out at the fitness centre or playing a game of table tennis, then head to the beach to try various water sports—from kayaking to diving excursions for those who want to dive deeper. Enjoy a relaxing lunch at the beach club with panoramic views of the bay, and spend the rest of the day cozying up on a lounge chair with a book.

Day 6

CalĂł de ses Dones and quieter sands

Head north on foot to CalĂł de ses Dones, one of the smaller coves within easy reach of the hotel, for a swim without the crowds. Take a mask if you have one, since the rocky edges are good for a snorkel. Come back for a late lunch, then book into the Salines Spa for a massage before evening drinks.

Day 7

Cala d'Or wander and dinner out

Spend the morning, you should take a stroll through Cala d’Or—this coastal town, located just a few minutes’ walk from the hotel, charms visitors with its narrow streets lined with white-washed houses. Pop into the shops, treat yourself to some ice cream, and admire the boats anchored in the marina. Return to the hotel, relax by the pool, and treat yourself to a short break with a cup of Nespresso coffee. Spend the evening, head back to the village and enjoy dinner at one of the restaurants by the harbour.

FAQ

Can children stay at the hotel?

No. Inturotel Cala Esmeralda Beach Hotel & Spa - Adults Only & Spa is an adults-only property, so guests must meet the minimum age requirement at check-in. Families with young children are advised to consider other hotels in the Introtel chain that are geared toward family holidays.

Is October a good time to visit this part of Mallorca?

Yes. On the south-eastern coast, from mid- to late October, the weather is milder than in the height of summer, and there are far fewer tourists here. The water temperature is still warm enough for swimming, and conditions for walking through the coves and in the Mondragó Natural Park remain comfortable. Since it can sometimes get chilly in the evening, it’s a good idea to bring a light jacket.

What is there to do on site besides the beach?

There is a wide variety of activities on offer. In addition to the solar-heated outdoor pool, the Salines Spa with massages and treatments, a fitness centre and gym, table tennis, opportunities for water sports and diving, the beach club overlooking the bay also hosts DJ sets at sunset, as well as regular live music concerts and shows.

Is there parking at the hotel?

Yes. A parking area in the surroundings is free for guests, which is useful if you're planning to hire a car and drive to Santanyi town, MondragĂł Natural Park or the villages inland.

What are the closest beaches to the hotel?

Cala des Corral cove is right below the hotel, and after a short walk along the coastal trail, you’ll reach the beaches of Cala Gran and Cala Ferrera Beach. Cala Serena and Caló de ses Dones are a bit further away, but the few minutes’ walk will take you to quieter, sandy beaches.
