Why we love it

The setting

Sandos Griego Hotel is in the heart of Torremolinos—a neighbourhood on the Costa del Sol where bars, cafes, and plazas line the streets, making it easy to explore on foot. Since the Costa del Sol and Nogalera squares are right next to the hotel, you can enjoy the lively nightlife here even in the evening. This area is easy to explore on foot, and if you want to venture further toward the coast, you can take one of the nearby local buses or a taxi. It’s more of a lively resort area than a quiet residential neighbourhood.

What to expect

Rooms have free Wi-Fi, and there's parking if you're driving. Sports fans get table tennis, a gym and fitness facilities, plus a golf course to work through. Families are looked after with a playroom, children's playground and a kids club.

Things to do nearby

The Costa del Sol and Nogalera squares are just a few minutes’ walk from each other, and both are perfect for enjoying a drink while watching the bustling street life. The Aqualand Torremolinos water park is also nearby and is within easy walking distance, even with children. Art lovers should definitely check out the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Cultural Centre. A little further away is the Parish Church of San Miguel Arcángel, which is a great place to get a feel for the local architecture.

Best for

It’s perfect for families who want a pool, a kids’ club, and a water park within walking distance. This accommodation is also recommended for couples and groups of friends who prefer a convenient location near the bars and squares in the centre of Torremolinos. Golfers and fitness enthusiasts can take advantage of the amenities on the complex grounds, and parking spaces are available for guests arriving by car.

How to get to the hotel

The nearest transit airport is Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport, located about a 15-minute drive along the coast. You can also book a shuttle when making your reservation. You can reach the Torremolinos train station from the airport in less than 15 minutes via the C1 commuter train; from there, the hotel is just a short walk or a few minutes by taxi. If you’re arriving by car, you can use the on-site parking lot. You’ll also have no trouble finding a taxi around the town square in the city centre.

A week, loosely planned

Suggestions, not orders. Tour ideas to mix and match for your trip.

Day 1

Arrival and first look at Torremolinos

After you check in and drop off your luggage, why not take a stroll to Costa del Sol Square to soak up the atmosphere? Enjoy a cool drink on a terrace, and then, on your way back as you pass by Plaza Nogareya, pick out a restaurant where you’d like to have dinner later this week. Once back at the hotel, you can cool off by the pool before dinner at the restaurant, and then have a cocktail at the bar before bed, fully immersing yourself in the rhythm of your holiday.

Day 2

Pool day and water park thrills

First, relax by the pool with a cup of coffee from the café and a book in hand. After lunch, take a walk to Aqualand Torremolinos and spend the rest of the afternoon on the water slides and in the wave pool. Since it’s just a few minutes’ walk from the hotel, the kids can take a nap on the way back. After everyone has showered, you’ll drop the kids off at the playroom or kids’ club so they can play to their hearts’ content, while you head to a restaurant in the city centre to enjoy some tapas.

Day 3

Old town wander and Picasso stop

Spend the morning exploring the streets around San Miguel Archangel Parish, ducking into the shops on Calle San Miguel as you go. Stop for lunch at a café with a view of the passing crowds. In the afternoon, visit the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Cultural Centre for an hour of local art, then walk back via Nogalera Square for a vermouth before returning to the hotel pool.

Day 4

Beach day on the Costa del Sol

If you want to spend a day at the beach in true Mediterranean style, you should head to Playamar or Baón Dijo. Rent a lounge chair, take a dip in the sea, and try some grilled sardines for lunch at a “chiringito.” “Espeto” is a local speciality. Later in the day, take a stroll along the boardwalk back to the city, work out at your hotel’s gym, or play a game of table tennis, and then wrap up the evening in a cozy bar.

Day 5

Málaga city day trip

Aqualand Torremolinos train station, take the Cercanías C1 train on Line C1, and in about 30 minutes you’ll arrive directly in the centre of Málaga. Take a stroll through the Old Town, climb up to the Alcazaba fortress to enjoy the view, and then have lunch at the Mercado Atarazanas. Spend the afternoon at the Picasso Museum and on the Muelle Uno promenade in the harbour, then return to your hotel just in time for a swim and dinner.

Day 6

Golf, gym or a lazy pool day

Enjoy your holiday at your own pace. Golfers enthusiasts can play a round on the golf course, while those looking for an intense workout can take advantage of the hotel’s on-site gym and fitness facilities. On days when you prefer to relax in a peaceful setting, reserve a lounge chair in advance and alternate between the pool and the café, while the kids are free to play on the playground or at the kids’ club. Afterward, you can take a short walk to Costa del Sol Square for dinner or a cocktail.

Day 7

Benalmádena and the coast

Take a short bus or taxi ride along the coast to Benalmádena for a change of scene. Visit the marina at Puerto Marina for lunch by the boats, ride the cable car up Calamorro mountain for a wide view of the coast, or wander the pretty white streets of Benalmádena Pueblo. Head back for a swim, then a final Torremolinos evening around Nogalera Square.

FAQ

Where is the Costa del Sol?

The Costa del Sol is a stretch of coastline in southern Spain, in the Andalusia region, running along the Mediterranean in the province of Málaga. Torremolinos, where Sandos Griego Hotel sits, is one of its best-known resort towns, a short drive west of Málaga city and its international airport.

Whereabouts on the map is the Costa del Sol?

The Costa del Sol is on the southern tip of Spain, on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea and North African. It stretches eastward from Nerja through Málaga, Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Fuengirola, and Marbella to Estepona. Torremolinos itself is about a 15-minute drive from the Málaga Airport.

What are the best things to do on the Costa del Sol?

Mix beach days with a wander around Málaga's old town and the Picasso Museum. From Torremolinos you can walk to Costa del Sol Square, Nogalera Square, Aqualand and the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Cultural Centre. At the hotel there's a swimming pool, table tennis, a gym, a golf course and a kids club with playground for families.

Is the Costa del Sol hot in October?

October is a mild and pleasant time of year rather than a hot one, with daytime highs typically ranging from 22 to 25 °C; the water is also still warm enough for swimming. However, if your holiday is in August, that’s the height of summer. Since high temperatures exceed 30 °C, it stays warm at night as well, and the beaches are expected to be crowded, the pool at the Sandos Griego hotel will undoubtedly come in very handy.

How long is the flight to the Costa del Sol?

Flights from the UK to Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport take roughly 2 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours from London, and around 3 to 3.5 hours from northern airports like Manchester or Edinburgh. From the airport, Torremolinos and Sandos Griego Hotel are about 15 minutes by car or a short Cercanías train ride.
