Secrets Bahia Real luxury Fuerteventura escape

Out on the north-east tip of Fuerteventura, just past Corralejo, you'll find Gran Hotel Atlantis Bahia Real. Out the back, you're straight onto Playa Real, with Las Agujas Beach a couple of minutes along the sand. The building takes its cues from Canarian and Moorish design, with arched walkways, courtyards and a domed lobby. From the seafront side you look across the water towards the islet of Lobos and, beyond it, Lanzarote.

Your five nights are in a Double Junior Suite with a pool view, and breakfast is included each morning. Out in the grounds: several outdoor pools fringed by palms and sun loungers, plus a spa with a thermal circuit. There are restaurants and bars on site for lunch and dinner, and the beach is steps from the gardens. Rooms come with a private bathroom and the usual extras you would expect at this end of the scale.

Playa Real is right outside the hotel, and Las Agujas Beach is 39 metres along the coast. Flag Beach, popular with windsurfers and kitesurfers, is about 471 metres away, and the Tres Vistas viewpoint sits roughly 501 metres from the door. The town of Corralejo, with its harbour, shops and ferry to Lanzarote, is a short drive or a long walk down the front. The Corralejo dunes national park spreads out to the south.

Couples after a quiet beach base with good food, a spa and plenty of pool time. The location suits anyone who wants the sea on the doorstep but still wants Corralejo's restaurants and the Lobos and Lanzarote ferries within reach.
