Vondelpark and the Museum Quarter
Leave your luggage, walk about five minutes to Vondelpark, and take a leisurely stroll among the trees and along the pond. From there, you’ll reach Museum Square; take a quick look at the facade of the Rijksmuseum, and then choose a museum you’d like to visit at your own pace. You especially recommend visiting the Van Gogh Museum during the second half of your first day. On your way back to the hotel, have dinner in the Leidseplein area and leave the stresses of the day behind.
Canals, cheese and old Amsterdam
From your hotel, walk about 10 minutes east toward the Herengracht and Singel canals, then stroll along the waterfront—lined with houses featuring gabled roofs—until you reach “Nine Streets.” There, you can browse the small shops while enjoying a cup of coffee. Let yourself be enchanted by the works of Vermeer, Rembrandt, and the Dutch Golden Age. To avoid lines, consider booking your entry time in advance. After a lunch break at Museumplein, take a stroll through Vondelpark on your way back. Spend the evening in the De Pijp neighbourhood, which is easily accessible by tram. Enjoy street food at the Albert Cuyp Market, and then round out the evening with a cocktail at a quiet spot.
Neighbourhood pockets and the ride home
Take advantage of your last morning to explore the places you haven’t visited yet. Take a stroll north to the Jordaan neighbourhood to discover its narrow streets and unique galleries. Alternatively, consider taking the ferry to NDSM to enjoy the post-industrial art there, as well as the cafes by the water. Before picking up your luggage, grab lunch somewhere near Leidseplein. From there, bus No. 397 will take you straight to Schiphol Airport, so you can plan your return trip to the airport without any hassle.
