The setting
This resort is on Palmar Beach on the east coast of Mauritius, about one kilometre from the centre of the nearest village. With its turquoise sea, vast casuarina forests, and tranquil coastline dotted with low-rise buildings, the atmosphere here is more serene than lively and party-oriented. Of course, you can walk for many miles along the sandy beach, but to reach the shops and villages further along the coast, it’s more convenient to use a rental car or a taxi.

Things to do nearby

How to get to the hotel
Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, in south-eastern Mauritius, is the arrival point for all international flights. The drive along the coast to Belle Mare de takes about 45–60 minutes (depending on traffic conditions). You can book a private transfer when making your reservation, and taxis are always available outside the arrivals hall. If you’re planning a day trip, renting a car at the airport will make it much easier to explore the east coast.

Arrival and first toes in the lagoon

Palmar Beach and pool day
Spend a peaceful and relaxing day. After enjoying a late breakfast, take a seat by the pool and, if you’d like, head to the sandy beach. Thanks to the coral reef, the water here is calm, so you can swim to your heart’s content. You also recommend renting snorkeling gear, available on the hotel grounds, to see what marine life lives beyond the drop-off. Order a drink at the bar, read a book for about an hour, and repeat this until sunset.
Ile aux Cerfs boat trip
Book a boat trip to Île aux Selfs—a popular destination on the east coast. The boat departs from the “Trou de l’Eau Douce” pier, located right on the coast, and the view alone as you cruise through the lagoon is worth the price of admission. Spend the day surrounded by white sandy beaches and crystal-clear, turquoise-blue shallow waters, and enjoy lunch at one of the beach huts on the island. There are also tours that stop at the GRSE waterfalls on the way back—just ask about them.
Water sports and the on-site water park
Use what's on the doorstep. The resort has water sport facilities, a water park and diving, so pick your pace: a proper dive if you're certified, a discovery session if you aren't, or an afternoon of kayaks and pedalos in the lagoon. Snorkelling straight off the beach is the easy option. Finish with table tennis before dinner, or a sauna session to loosen shoulders.
Inland to waterfalls and tea country
Rent a car or hire a driver and head inland to the Central Plateau. The trip to Chamarel will take a whole day, but the view of the “seven-coloured earth” and Chamarel Waterfall is definitely worth the effort. The road leading up the Black River Valley also offers picturesque scenery. A little closer to you is the “Tea Route” around Bois Cheri—a short, half-day tour during which you can also enjoy a tea tasting. If you plan to stop by the river on the way back, don’t forget to bring your swimming gear.
Tennis, golf and a slower afternoon
How about booking a tennis court in the morning, while the air is still cool, or playing a round of golf and enjoying the course? If you don't play golf, you can get a good workout at the gym. In the afternoon, it’s time to relax. Treat yourself to a massage at the spa, visit the sauna, and then take a dip in the pool. How about dinner at the resort’s restaurant and a glass of rum at the bar while watching the moon rise over the lagoon?
Port Louis and market day
How about a trip to the capital to take your mind off things for a bit? Port Louis is about an hour’s drive across the island and is perfect for a half-day trip. There, you can visit the Central Market with its spices, fruits, and vanilla, stroll along the Aapravasi Ghat waterfront, and have lunch at the restaurant “Le Caudan” by the harbour. On the way back, you can drive along the coastal road and take a dip in Belle Mare before dinner. Don’t forget to stock up on small bills for shopping at the market stalls.
