The setting
This resort is on the small island of Vihamanafushi in the North Malé Atoll and is surrounded by its own coral reef, as well as Kurumba Beach, whose fine sand resembles fluffy snow. There is no urban hustle and bustle here; instead, the atmosphere typical of a peaceful island reigns—with no streets or crowds. Shady paths wind beneath palm trees between the villas, restaurants, and bars. The lagoon is just a few steps away from anywhere, and a calm, relaxing atmosphere prevails all around.
What to expect
Expect a proper five-star Maldivian resort: a swimming pool, a spa with massage rooms and sauna, and a fitness centre. Days revolve around the water — snorkelling straight off the beach, diving trips, table tennis and a tennis court when you fancy time out of the sun. Evenings drift between the bar, restaurant and café, with breakfast set up before you head out again.
Things to do nearby
Kurumba Beach is right at the entrance, just a few minutes’ walk from the villa, and is practically part of the resort. Since the house reef is right on the beach, you can go snorkeling with minimal effort. In addition, the Maldivian capital, Malé, is just a few minutes away by speedboat. The hotel recommends taking an afternoon stroll through the market, to the mosque, and along the waterfront, then returning to the resort for dinner.
Best for
Couples come here for the romance of an island all to themselves, but it works just as well for families: there's a playroom, children's playground, a kids' pool, a kids club and children's TV networks, so younger guests have their own space while parents book in for the spa. Divers and snorkellers will get plenty out of the reef, and anyone who just wants to read on the sand is well catered for too.
How to get to the hotel
Velana International Airport on the island of Fulule is directly across from Vihamanafushi, separated from it only by the sea, and the resort is one of the islands closest to the airport. The trip by speedboat takes about 10 minutes and can be arranged at the time of booking. Flights to Malé are available via the Gulf states and Asia. Upon arrival, your luggage is delivered directly to the pier, and within a few minutes of disembarking the speedboat, you’ll find yourself on the island.

A week, loosely planned
Suggestions, not orders. Tour ideas to mix and match for your trip.
Arrival and first swim
Step off the speedboat that brought you from Velana, and let you escort you to your room—where you’ll immediately be immersed in an atmosphere of relaxation. Put on some light clothing, take a barefoot stroll along Kurumba Beach, dip your feet in the lagoon, and enjoy your first real swim here. Then settle into a lounge chair by the pool, order a refreshing drink, and watch the colours of the sky change. Reserve a table at one of the restaurants for dinner and go to bed early—otherwise, the time difference will catch up with you.
House reef snorkelling
After breakfast, rent a mask and fins and head to the far end of Kurumba Beach, where the coastal reef drops off steeply into the depths. Just a few minutes from shore, you’ll see surgeonfish, butterflyfish, and sometimes even sea turtles. Head back to the café for lunch, then relax in the shade for about an hour while reading a book. When the sun isn’t quite so hot, take a walk around the island—it won’t take long—and then relax at the bar.
Spa day and slow evening
Give yourself a full slow day. Start with a long breakfast, then book a massage or a session in the sauna at the spa. Between treatments, alternate between the pool and the sea — the water temperature barely changes. Order lunch somewhere with a view of the lagoon. In the evening, dress up a little for dinner at the restaurant and finish with a nightcap watching the reef lights.
Diving trip out to the atoll
If you have a diver’s certification, you should arrange your dives through the resort. North Malé Atoll features reef walls, channels, and dive sites with currents, all of which are easily accessible by boat. Those who don’t dive can instead join snorkeling tours or a sunset dolphin-watching cruise. Once back on the island, take a shower, nap during the hottest part of the day, and enjoy a drink in the early evening. For dinner, consider trying dishes grilled right on the sandy beach.
Malé city half-day
Take a speedboat to Malé and spend the morning in the Maldivian capital. Stroll through the fish market, stop by the Old Friday Mosque, and enjoy a cup of coffee at a café by the harbour. For lunch, consider a small local restaurant. Be sure to try hedika and other small appetizers. In the afternoon, take the speedboat back, put on your swimsuit, and end the day in the lagoon.
Tennis, table tennis and pool time
Let’s make the most of the resort’s sports facilities today. In the morning, before sunrise, play a game of tennis on the court, and then recharge with a hearty breakfast. Later that, you can play a game of table tennis in the shade of the trees or work up a sweat in the gym. The pool is perfect for the afternoon. The water is shallow enough for children and deep enough for swimmers. Use the day with a cocktail at the bar as the sun sets.
Long lazy beach day
You don't have any special plans today, other than going to the beach. Let’s find a spot in advance, bring plenty of water, and spend the day relaxing. When it gets hot, you’ll go for a swim, and when it cools down, you’ll read a book. If this service is available, you can ask the staff to bring you lunch right on the beach. In the afternoon, it’s worth taking a walk around the island and watching how the light changes over the coral reef. Book a dinner spot that’s a little different from the usual. If you prefer a relaxed atmosphere, consider a café; if you’d like to enjoy dinner in a quiet setting, a restaurant is the right choice.

FAQ
Is Kurumba Maldives Resort suitable for children?
Yes. The resort has a playroom, a children's playground, a dedicated kids' swimming pool, a kids club and children's TV networks in the rooms, so younger guests are well looked after. The calm lagoon is also good for a first snorkel.
When is the best time to visit for an August trip like this?
Since August in the Maldives falls during the rainy southwest monsoon season, the air temperature is around 28–30 °C; although brief but heavy downpours are possible, visibility is generally good between them. The water temperature is ideal for swimming, and the waves are often calmer than during the peak dry season from December through April.
What is there to do on site besides the beach?
Plenty. The resort has water sports, diving and snorkelling straight off the house reef, plus a tennis court, table tennis, a gym and a fitness centre. There's also a swimming pool, a spa with massage rooms and a sauna, and bars, a café and restaurants for the evenings.
Does the room rate include breakfast?
Yes, breakfast is included with this booking. Other meals — lunch, dinner and drinks at the bars and cafés — are paid for separately at the resort's outlets, so you can pick and choose where to eat across the island each day.
How close is the resort to Malé?
It’s very close by. Vihamanafushi is directly across from Malé and Fulhuru Island—where the airport is—you can reach the capital by speedboat in just a few minutes. After a half-day excursion to the fish market, the Old Friday Mosque, and the harbour, you can return to the island in time for dinner.
