Arrival and the Termini quarter
Leave your luggage and walk straight down the street that runs behind the Baths of Diocletian. Walk around the Santa Maria Maggeria, admire Rome’s first true basilica, and then, when the light softens, take a stroll toward the Villa Medici. After enjoying an aperitif somewhere in the neighbourhood, head back to the hotel bar for another drink. On evenings when you’re tired, it’s better to have dinner at one of the nearby restaurants than to head into the city centre.
Fountains, columns and old Rome
Head out early and make your way to the Trevi Fountain before it gets too crowded, and stop by the memorial to Column of Antoninus Pius on the way. Spend the rest of the morning strolling leisurely through the streets of this neighbourhood, and enjoy a relaxed lunch at a trattoria.
