Why we love it
The setting
Le Sirenuse sits on the hillside above Positano, with the old fishing town tumbling down towards the sea below. The red-fronted building was the summer home of the Sersale family before it opened as a hotel in 1951, and much of that family feel remains in the antiques, paintings and tiled floors. Terraces face the Tyrrhenian Sea, so most rooms and the pool look straight out over the water and the colourful houses of the town.
What to expect
This stay is a Classic Double room with sea view, with breakfast included each morning. The hotel keeps a Michelin-starred restaurant, La Sponda, where the dining room is lit by hundreds of candles in the evening. There is an outdoor pool, a spa and several terraces for a drink before dinner. Rooms are individually decorated, with hand-painted tiles and balconies that open onto the bay.
Things to do nearby
Positano's narrow lanes, boutiques and beach are a short walk downhill from the door. Boats leave the main beach for Capri, Amalfi and the smaller coves along the coast. Further out, the Monti Lattari regional park rises behind the town at about 14 km, and Pompeii and Vesuvius National Park lie roughly an hour away by car. Salerno and its cathedral are around 24 km along the coast road.
Best for
Couples after a quiet, design-led base on the Amalfi Coast, with sea views, good food and the town on the doorstep.
