Why we love it

The setting

The InterContinental Bora Bora Resort and Thalasso Spa sits on its own stretch of lagoon, with overwater villas reaching out across clear shallow water. Mount Otemanu rises across the channel, and you can watch its outline change as the light shifts through the day. The resort has a private beach and a Thalasso Spa built around seawater treatments. This is a place to slow down. Days here are quiet and unhurried, shaped by the water and the view rather than a long list of things to tick off.

What to expect

Your stay is in an overwater villa with direct access to the lagoon and a glass panel set into the floor. Breakfast is included, served buffet style each morning. The Thalasso Spa is the centre of the resort, using lagoon seawater in its treatments, and there is an infinity pool, a fitness room and several restaurants and bars on site. The pace is calm. Most guests split their time between the villa deck, the spa and the water, with little reason to leave.

Things to do nearby

The resort is set on a motu off the main island, so most of what you do happens by boat. Le Meridien Beach is about 837 metres away. Motu Mute Airport, where you arrive, is 8.6 km off, and onward connections run through Raiatea Airport at 35 km. Bora Bora's lagoon is the main draw, with snorkelling, diving and boat trips out to the reef. Mount Otemanu is in view from much of the property and is the island's defining landmark.

Best for

Couples after a quiet, water-focused stay with spa time built in. It suits honeymoons and slow holidays where the villa, the lagoon and the view do most of the work.

A week, loosely planned

Suggestions, not orders. Tour ideas to mix and match for your trip.

Day 1

Boat across the lagoon

Arrive at Motu Mute Airport and take the boat transfer across the lagoon to the resort. Settle into your overwater villa and spend the first evening on the deck watching the light fade over the water.

Day 2

Thalasso spa morning

Start slow with breakfast looking out over the lagoon. Book a session at the Thalasso Spa, which uses seawater drawn from the lagoon in its treatments, then cool off in the infinity pool.

Day 3

Snorkelling the lagoon

Head out on the water for snorkelling or a boat trip across the lagoon. The shallows around the villas are clear enough to swim straight from your deck, with Mount Otemanu in view across the channel.

Day 4

Beach and pool day

Keep the day open for the beach and the pool. Move between the private beach, a long lunch and the villa deck, with no fixed plan beyond the water.

Day 5

Last lagoon crossing

Check out and take the boat back to Motu Mute Airport for your onward flight. Allow time for the lagoon crossing before you leave.
