The setting
Hotel du Bourg sits at the centre of Valmorel village, with the shops, bars and restaurants of the main street on its doorstep and the Grand Domaine slopes about fifty metres away. Rock arches and wooden balconies pick up the Savoie style found across the village, and there's an optical illusion painted onto the facade. Both the Planchamp chairlift and Telebourg cable car are round the corner.
What to expect
This family-run hotel offers five different room types, some of which are connecting rooms that can accommodate up to four people. On the ground floor, there is a British-style pub with a fireplace, serving draft beer, whiskey, rum, and cocktails. Guests also have access to a Finnish sauna and a relaxation area. You can store your gear in the ski room in the lobby, and the concierge will be happy to assist with purchasing ski passes, arranging rentals at SkiSet, and making restaurant reservations.
Things to do nearby
The Hotel du Bourg ski lift and the Valmorel ski resort are right across from the front desk; the Planchamp lift is just a few minutes’ walk from here, and the Pierrafort gondola is a little further away. The The Bois de la Croix Ski Lift lift is also in the immediate vicinity. Along the main street, within a five-minute walk, there are more than ten restaurants; in addition, there are ski rental shops, boutiques, a movie theatre, and—right across from the hotel—the Piou Piou children’s ski club.
Best for
It’s perfect for skiers and families who want to access the ski slopes right from the hotel, without having to take a shuttle bus. A game room and a children’s playground make it easier to holiday with young children, and rooms with connecting doors provide added comfort when travelling in large groups.
How to get to the hotel
The nearest airport is Chambéry, located about a 90-minute drive away. From Geneva or Lyon, the drive takes about two hours. Those arriving by train usually get off at the Moûtiers station, located about 15 km down the valley, and from there take a bus or taxi to Valmorel. There is a parking lot right in front of the hotel where you can park for free for the first three hours.

Best option in Valmorel
Everything was perfect: from location to staff. Tasty breakfast and small but cozy and comfortable rooms.
Your 4 days, loosely planned
Suggestions, not orders. Tour ideas to mix and match for your trip.
Arrival and village wander
Park your car in front of the hotel, where you can leave it for free for a few hours, and take your luggage to the front desk. After you’ve stored your skis in the ski locker near the entrance, take a stroll down Valmorel’s main street and soak up the atmosphere. Order ski passes and equipment rentals through the concierge at “Skiset,” and in the afternoon, relax in the English pub on the ground floor with a glass of draft beer by the fireplace.
First runs on the Grand Domaine
Step out of the door and onto the snow. The Planchamp chairlift and Telebourg cable car are both round the corner, feeding straight into the 165 km of Grand Domaine pistes for every level. Stop for lunch at one of the mountain restaurants, then ski back down to the village. Warm up in the Finnish sauna before heading out to one of the ten-plus restaurants on the main street.
Ski school and a slower pace
The “Mottet” bus stop, which serves as the meeting point for ESF program participants, is a 3-minute walk away. Alternatively, you can leave your young children under supervision at the “Piou Piou,” located directly across from the hotel. Spend the morning honing your turning technique, and then enjoy the changing scenery as you ride the “Piera-Fall” gondola.
Last runs and check-out
Check your luggage at the front desk, take the “Bois de la Croix” lift to enjoy your final runs, and then head straight back down to the village. Even on your last day, you’ll have access to a sauna and shower to warm up after skiing, so you won’t have to drive home wet and cold. Have a coffee on the main street, pick up your car, and then head down the valley toward Moûtiers.

FAQ
Is Hotel du Bourg suitable for families with children?
Yes, this is a family-friendly hotel that features a game room and a children’s playground, as well as connecting rooms for large groups. Right across from the hotel is the The Piou Piou ski club for beginners, and the rooms can accommodate up to four people.
How close are the ski lifts?
Very close. The Telebourg ski lift and Valmorel resort are moments from the entrance, with the Planchamp chairlift and Pierrafort gondola a short walk further. The hotel is ski-in ski-out and less than a three-minute walk from the main lifts into the Grand Domaine.
When is the best time to visit Valmorel?
In January, when this trip will take place, the French Alps will be in the midst of the ski season. On the Grand Domaine slopes, which stretch for a total of 165 km, you can count on reliable snow coverage, and the village itself also offers a rich program of activities. Since accommodations tend to book up quickly in late January due to school breaks, the hotel recommends booking as early as possible.
What is there to do at the hotel besides skiing?
Guests have use of a Finnish sauna and relaxation area, an English pub with an open fireplace serving draft beers, cocktails, whiskies and rums, a library and a playroom for kids. The concierge helps book restaurants, passes and rentals.
Can pets come along?
No, pets are not allowed in the hotel, so plan alternative arrangements before travelling.
