The setting
This hotel is about 250 metres from the fishing port and Paphos’s city beach, and is situated on the outskirts of the old port district rather than in the entertainment district of Kato Paphos. The surrounding streets are lined with shops, taverns, and bars, and the historic city centre is within walking distance. Enjoy the leisurely pace of life typical of the Mediterranean. During the day, the sun shines and a relaxed atmosphere prevails; in the evening, the area around the harbour comes alive; and when you return to the pool, you can spend a few minutes there in peace and quiet.

Things to do nearby
Since St. St. Paul's Church and the early Christian basilica are right next to each other, it will only take a few minutes to see St. Paul’s Column. If you enjoy a morning swim, the city pool beach is just a few minutes’ walk away. Walk a little further along the coast, and you’ll reach Alykes Beach; Faros Beach, where you can sunbathe for longer in a different setting, is also within walking distance.

How to get to the hotel
It takes about 15 minutes to drive from Paphos International Airport to the resort, travelling south along the coast. Alternatively, you can fly into Larnaca Airport; the drive takes about 90 minutes. Once you arrive at the resort, the centre of Paphos and the harbour are within walking distance.

Arrival and harbour sundowners
Check your luggage and enjoy a relaxing afternoon with a cool drink in hand at the resort bar. Once the heat subsides, take a stroll to Paphos’s fishing harbour, count the boats at anchor, and pick a taverna with a view of the sea to sample authentic Cypriot cuisine for the first time. Walk back past St. Paul's Pillar so you’ll know where to start tomorrow, and turn in early by the pool.
Ruins on the doorstep
Let’s start with the neighbouring Church of St. Paul and the early Christian basilica. If you look at the columns and fragments of mosaics that have been preserved there, you’ll understand where the city’s name comes from. Take some time to read the information signs and walk along the path that leads through the excavation site. Take a break at one of the nearby cafes, have an iced coffee, come back before the sun reaches its zenith, go for a swim, and then spend a relaxing day lounging on a beach chair.
Municipal Baths Beach day
Grab a towel and a book and take a five-minute walk to Municipal Baths Beach. In September, the sea here is calm, and the sandy beach slopes gently into the water, making this the perfect spot for a long, relaxing swim. Enjoy lunch at a restaurant right by the sea, and in the afternoon, for a change of pace, head to Alykes Beach. Before dinner, you can cool off in the resort’s pool.
Paphos Mosaics and old town
Visit the Paphos Archaeological Park and see the famous Dionysos, as well as the House of Aion. Since the park is large and there is no shade, consider that you leave early and bring water and a hat. Afterwards, you can stroll through the shopping streets around the harbour, pick up a bottle of Commandaria wine and some local honey, and round out the day by enjoying grilled fish at a restaurant with a terrace.
Slow morning and Faros Beach
When you’re ready, head to Faros Beach in the afternoon. Of course, it’s a bit farther than taking the city bus, but the walk along the coast is one of the highlights of this excursion. Go for a swim while admiring the lighthouse in the distance until the light softens, and then take your time walking back through the harbour.
Countryside and wine detour
Rent a car for the day and head inland to the wine-growing villages nestled around the Diarizos and Ezousa valleys. Stop in Omodos and Pano Panagia to enjoy wine tastings and a selection of loukanika, and take a stroll through the cobblestone streets. Late in the afternoon, head back via the Petra tou Romiou viewpoint, admire the “Rock of Aphrodite” glistening in the sunset, and then enjoy dinner near the resort.
Pool day and harbour night
Let's put the sightseeing part aside for now. Let's grab a lounge chair early, order a refreshing drink, and enjoy the day however you like: by the pool, reading, or in the shade. While you take a nap, the kids can have a blast in the playroom or the kids’ pool. In the evening, you’ll take another stroll along the harbour promenade, pick a tavern you haven’t been to yet, order a wide selection of meze, and sample all kinds of flavours before heading home.

Is Basilica Holiday Resort suitable for children?
Yes. The hotel has a game room and a children’s pool, so even young children can have a great time here. “Municipal Baths Beach,” which is within walking distance, is ideal for families with children thanks to its calm waves and shallow waters. In addition, the promenade along the harbour is easy to walk along, even with a stroller. Family rooms are equipped with air conditioning and a balcony.
When is the best time to visit Paphos?
Early September, when this trip will take place, is one of the most pleasant times of the year. The water temperature is still around 26 °C, there are plenty of sunny days, it’s not as hot as in July, and the evenings are warm enough to enjoy dinner outdoors. Late spring and October are also pleasant, though it can get quite hot in the height of summer for exploring the mosaics and the archaeological park.
